Project 2021
Our shortlisted competition scheme for a new Changjiang Delta Campus for the Beijing Institute of Technology University maximised the amenity and usability of a challenging site occupying a series of waterways next to the UNESCO world heritage listed ‘Grand Canal’, the longest artificial river in the world linking Beijing to Hangzhou. The Campus plan proposed a modern interpretation of traditional Chinese water villages. The new campus, to be delivered over multiple stages, included concept design of all buildings and facilities in the initial stage totalling 286,000m2.
The masterplan is centred on a central academic spine of common facilities, including administration, libraries and general learning and teaching. The campus is further divided on either side of the spine into precincts for student accommodation and recreation, learning, teaching and research for high-tech industries including artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, and robotics.
A covered circulation ribbon connects all the central facilities.
