Punch Lane Apartments
Residential
Melbourne, Australia
Project 1985 – 1988
About this project
Built as part of the 222 Exhibition Street commercial office development, the four-storey apartment building is thought to be one of the earliest new residential developments in the contemporary CBD. It predated the City of Melbourne’s ‘Postcode 3000’ residential development policy, launched in 1972, that transformed the CBD from a near-empty business district into the mixed-use high-density, lively city centre. This is viewed as one of the most influential planning interventions in Australian history.
The Punch Lane housing is highly sort after to this day.
